Weslaco police said Luis Armando Garza (aka Joker) stole a Dodge caravan at gunpoint Sunday. A woman and her children were inside the car at the time. The 30-year-old was taken to Hidalgo County jail. His bond was set at $100,000.
A 21-year-old man convicted of a carjacking in McAllen was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison without parole. Prosecutors say he admitted to the August 2010 crime, and he had agreed to pay someone $150 to take the stolen BMW to Mexico.
Four teens are behind bars after leading police on a chase in South Padre Island. Police say the car involved was stolen in McAllen over the weekend. The teens are facing charges for evading arrest and theft of a motor vehicle. The driver faces an additional charge for reckless driving.
UPDATE: Police say the truck carjacked yesterday in Edinburg was driven into Mexico before all the alerts were sent out. Two men who were inside the truck are now facing charges in Mexico for having a firearm.
