South Texas ISD’s Mercedes complex was placed on lockdown, after reports of hearing shots fired off campus. Authorities gave the all-clear to lift the lockdown around 3:30 p.m. We have a crew on the scene gathering more details.
Authorities are in Edinburg searching for a suspect who got away. Betts and Esparza elementary schools are on lockdown. School district administrators tell us the lockdowns are only a precaution.
UPDATE: The lockdowns have been lifted. Edinburg CISD police arrested one of the suspects. The search continues for a second man, but that search is not close to the campuses.
Betts Elementary and Esparza Elementary in Edinburg were on lockdown for a short time this morning. It’s a precaution done at the request of Border Patrol. We’re gathering more information on what caused the lockdown.
Brownsville Early College High School is on lockdown. Authorities are searching for a suspect near the area. We’re working to gather more information.
A lockdown was ordered at Gonzalez Elementary (La Joya ISD) as a result of a police chase. We’re told shots were fired during the chase. No injuries have been reported.
Ybarra Elementary in Weslaco is on lockdown after a chase ended near the school. CHANNEL 5 NEWS has a crew at the scene getting more details.
Two people were arrested after a high-speed chase that ended in Edinburg, near Ric Mar Street and U.S. 281. Guerra Elementary was located near the scene. The school was put in lockdown as a result. That lockdown order has since been lifted. We’re working to get more details about what started the chase.
