Woman Convicted for Trying to Smuggle Meth in Beer Bottles
A 20-year-old Illinois woman was convicted of trying to smuggle about 16.5 pounds of methamphetamine into the U.S. Carolina Avila was caught at the Hidalgo port of entry in March. The drugs were found in a box with 12 bottles of beer. A CBP agent noticed floating particles in the bottles.
Avila admitted she knew the case of beer had an illegal substance, when her father asked her to cross it into the U.S. Her sentencing is set for March 20.
